drain. we have video of the rescue. >> and after the big black friday rush the shopping event taking place today that could give a big boost to local businesses. >> complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> and good morning. welcome to mornings on 2. it's saturday november 24th. >> good morning. hope you are enjoying your weekend. let's check in with rosemary and a quick look at the forecast. >> reporter: another nice day in the forecast for your holiday weekend starting out cool and calm and with that patchy fog in the valley. mild weather expected for the afternoon. not before long we will deal with wet weather. i will break this down for you. show you the afternoon highs and the current conditions coming up. >> we start with video we just got of the overnight rescue of a man stuck in a storm drain. rescue crews had to work for

hours to dig him free and they finally pulled him out. this was about midnight. the first call came in after a man heard noises around 8 last night. officers went to the area and couldn't find the victim but later found him wedged in a metal pipe seven feet underground. >> he was upset and a bit -- dehydrated, hypothermia was setting in. the cold night. i'm not sure why he was in there. >> though he was trapped for hours the man had only minor injuries. i a campbell nati version killed in the south bay will be laid to rest today. matt keller joining us live with more on the service and the update on the investigation there to the case. >> reporter: yeah. i checked in with the san jose police department spokesperson for the update on this case. they are still search for a second suspect or at least

that's what was happening all this week as they released a sketch on that expect now hee mailed me back and said per the homicide unit we aren't confirming or denying any new information. that came after i asked them if an arrest had been made. >> the man was shot and killed last week. one of the suspects a 26-year- old was in court wednesday. police say he and another man robbed four businesses, murdered a 22-year-old in a carjacking and participated in a shoot out with two officers one of the officers was hit and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. willbanks was arrested the next morning. officers released a sketch of the second suspect, a 20,000- dollar reward is being offered for his arrest. the funeral for the victim is being held this morning at 11. we will continue to talk to police and ask them about

updates on that second suspect and bring you new information on mornings on 2. reporting live. matt keller. >> less than two hours ago a famed boxer died. his family took him off life support after three of hysons flew into see him. doctors ruled him brain dead after he was shot in the head on tuesday. a friend died in that shooting also. police are following leads but have not made arrests. >> happening how a hit and run shutting down three southbound lanes of highway 101. a car hit another vehicle just before five this morning. the accident caused one car to overturn. overturn. an lanes 2, 3 and 4 are still blocked. the driver abandoned his car and fled the scene. chp officers checked the home of the driver listed but nobody was there. loved ones of a family are

holding vigil after family members crashed into a crashed chp car. the family was returning a black friday shopping trip in gilroy when their suv hit the highway patrol cruiser. a 24-year-old died at the scene. her four sisters and her parents were also hurt. her mother, and 20-year-old sibling were rushed to the hospital. >> just very shocking to me and then i got -- we got a lot of calls and then we told -- like other family or family members and i didn't know it would turn out like this. >> the investigators say they are looking at the possibility that the father may have fallen asleep at the wheel. the highway patrol officer who had stopped to help a stranded driver had minor injuries. >> we have videos of a car

burned in oakland. if you can hear the horn was the only thing still working after the flames and smoke. it happened just after 11 last night in the area of 50th and international boulevard. the owner believes someone threw something in to the car to start the fire. investigators say the burn pattern suggests it was arson. there are no suspects at this time. >> this morning investigators will return to western massachusetts where a natural gas explosion wiped out a downtown strip club. a camera on top of a building captured the blast. witnesses described it as a mushroom cloud of an explosion, big and orange. 18 people were hurt . none of them were considered life threatening. >> it felt like it -- impact and it felt like the building was -- the roof was going to cave in on us and we shook.

they said 100 million people took part in it last year. a group of shops in downtown celebrated black friday yesterday. they say they want wanted to create an alternative. it's based on the idea that small businesses create a community fabric. >> get out, find a coffee, find who your local businesses are, have a fun day. >> it started in oakland four years ago and the campaign has spread. >> if you plan to go to oakland today you can park for free. the city is offers free parking every saturday until new year's day. no charge to park at all city run meter spaces and four city owned garages you will get free parking for two hours. it's to get people to say in oakland. >> early numbers in and black

friday appears to be turning in to black thursday. some stores here opened at eight thank giverring night. a new study shows 17% of the people who shopped were actually in those stores when the doors opened on thursday night. apparently that also helped sales. economists predict the sales will be up almost 4%. and if you missed black friday you still have cyber monday. according to a new survey 49% of workers plan to do a little shopping this year while they are at work. economists say many have become more lenient when it comes to using breaks and down time to shop. >> i'm not an online shopper. >> i am. it's 'yes. >> more than going in. >> i still like going in. >> i have a problem --. >> online. >> that is true. >> anywhere. i can --. >> if you decide not to shop today maybe you want to do something else. it's a good start. >> you are right. we have another nice day today for some of us the warmest day

of the week. we are off to a chilly start this morning. we have mostly clear skies, calm conditions, the two combined again really help to cool us off in the over night. sun is up. wow, what a beautiful shot there. if you are getting outside early, maybe for a run or to walk the dog, just beware. it's a little cool in some spots. very calm out there. just a very light prize in san jose as well as santa rosa and that really helps, that cold air to settle at the bottom. with that we have patchy fog as well developing in the valley. 37 degrees in santa rose a. visibility from a quarter to a half mile from santa rosa down to nevado. dealing fog as well. 39 in napa. widespread low 40s to mid40s and low 50s reported san francisco. again this will be the chilly spot this morning waking up as we get through the next hour or two we will start to see the

. good morning to you. wow, what a beautiful shot. mostly clear skies, around the bay area. little bit of patchy fog. another good-looking day in store. >> family, friends and fans, are mourning the death of a legendary tv actor. he is probably best remembered as jr in the long running show dallas. he starred in the classic i dream of jennie. he died in a dallas hospital yesterday of complications a battle with cancer. he was 81 years old. >> an alabama sheriff's department is dealing a tragic loss. officials say one of the deputies was killed and another

critically injured during a shoot out in baldwin. the deputies were responding to a family dispute when a man in the home started shooting at them. a 47-year-old scott ward died on the scene. the suspect was also shot and killed. >> one of the fbi's ten most wanted fugitives is now in custody. he was arrested in mexico on thursday and faces charges of murder, kidnapping and rape. he is a accused of killing two rival gang members back in 1998, police say that he thought his girlfriend was going to tell police so he kidnapped, raped and killed her. police are looking for a man who stabbed at least one person in a bar night. it happened 2:00 a.m. thursday morning outside the green lantern bar. thea attacker stabbed a 31-year- old man in the shoulder. officers described the suspect as a heavy set white or latino male with a black beanie hat

and dark clothing. he is believed to have escaped in a silver ford pickup truck. >> a stockton woman had to go to the hospital after someone threw a pumpkin at her while she was walking across the street. it was just after ten when a white sedan came down the street and threw a pumpkin at a 51-year-old woman on the sidewalk. the fairly large pumpkin hit her in the chest and she had to go to the hospital. >> you have to think of how fast the car was driving and the person that was throwing it out of the vehicle. it did strike her in the middle of the chest. >> detectives say that the crime is a felony, assault with a deadly weapon. the assault is still under investigation. >> new yorkers can look forward to one sign of being normal after sandy, add, even gas rationing will end this morning. it had been in place for the past two weeks because so many gas stations had no power or gas. now 85% of gas stations are

operational again. officials in new jersey and long island have already ended the system. $29.4 billion, that's the estimated cost of the damage and losses to new jersey caused by sandy. the governor released that figure yesterday saying it was a pleiomery number. the state has not said how much financial relief it'll receive from the government. >> hurricane sandy victims can't seem to escape the devastation and now growing health concerns can be added to the mess left behind. exposure to toxins, mold and dust in someplaces sewage, all more worries for homeowners. teams have set up temporary locations to treat victims. complains of coughs and asthma have been reported. >> we have been treating 70 patients a day and since -- since we have started this base we have treated over a thousand. >> authorities stressed it's still not clear how many cases

linked to people with chronic conditions or combined the fact that access to regular medication has been hard. declining weather temperatures are also causing health concerns. >> a disstress call from a sinking boat sent rescuers speeding off the waters of berkeley. it came in just after noon. the boat was taking in water about 300 yards north of the berkeley pier. someone on the boat used a phone to call the police. the cause of the leak appeared to be a broken seal on the drive shaft. >> there were eight people on board. they all had life vests on so they would have been safe enough in the cold water. it was also pretty calm conditions on the bay. >> five people left the boat with the rescue crews, three stayed on board while the boat was towed back to emoryville. a dog, a cat and a snake were also on board. >> the chp trying to find what caused a deadly crash in sonoma. it happened on todd road just

south of santa rose a. the 33- year-old driver drifted off the road and hit a tree. a passenger in his car died later at the hospital. smith was also hurt in the collision. alcohol is not believed to have been a factor movement there have been 11 deaths compared to 13 over the last year. the highway patrol reported improving numbers. the latest from wednesday night to yesterday morning, 71 bay area drivers were arrested for dui, drunk driving is also down statewide. >> antioch is trying to find a way toen tice veteran police officers to transfer in from other agencies. on tuesday they will consider amending their contract to get a formula that could have some retiring earlier. right now they have 14 empty police officer positions to fill and it's having a hard

time attracting enough. new jobs in tracy because of amazon. they have hopes after a planned big center was finalized by the mayor. the retailer finalized it to build the new center set to open by the next holiday season. mater said that the company is expected to hire 1,000 people and that the city will also receive sales tax revenue from goods ships from the center. they have announced a number of new centers in california after state lawmakers agreed to give them a one year reprieve from collecting sales tax if they agreed to build in the state. >> lots of people buying their christmas trees this weekend. what types are expected to be the most popular. >> and cigarette smokers being asked to recycle. what a company wants to do with them. >> and a weather will highlight your saturday afternoon. a look at your day planner

. the number of no burn days in central california could be going up. air pollution officials proposing the increase. if adopted many counties would raise the average no burn days in the winter by about 30 days or more. the plan would not apply to homes or wood burning is the only source for heat. a company wants your secondhand cigarette buts. they are looking to get them off san francisco beaches and out of landfills by recycling them. they would turn them into pellets and make plastic shopping pallets. they are one of the most common littered terrible was 65% not going to the trash can. >> thin is in this year at least with trees.

>> good. >> thank you. >> it was around midnight, emergency crews pulled out a 27- year-old man wedged inside a metal pipe seven feet below ground. a passerby heard sounds of him yelling for help near a best buy store on fitzgerald drive. it took more than three hours to get him out. he had scrapes to his shoulder, they still don't know why he was there. >> a memorial service will be held today for a campbell native gunned down in front of a 7-11 for in the south bay. matt keller is live in san jose with more on what's happening today and the update on this case. >> reporter: yeah. i asked the police department for the update on this case. they told me they are neither confirming nor denying any new information about a second suspect and if an arrest has been made. that person is wanted for several armed robberies and a

to the target pharmacy and pulled out a gun firing one round into the ceiling before running away. witnesses say he is a six foot tall white man, about 180 pounds. nobody was hurt. >> tensions grew at one arizona wal-mart as hundreds of shoppers pushed and shoved to the deals. take a look at this scene in tucson. people are just doing anything they can to get their hands on some of the best electronic deals. analysts say black friday revenue adds up to close to 40% of many store is yearly sales. >> despite walk outs and protests by wal-mart employees the retail giant claimed it had it's best black friday ever. reporting a record ten million transactions from the time the door opened on black friday. >> protesters lined up marking

that plane went down about -- just after noon, about four miles from the community. the pilot was the only person on board and his name hasn't been released. arson ruled out in a power plant fire. the fire at was put out yesterday earlier than first expected. it's less than firefighters first thought. the power plant supplies power to pumps used by major water delivery systems. >> forecasters predict more flooding throughout the united kingdom. places hardest hit include southwest england. one man if died when rushing waters trapped his car. several hundred have been flooded out of their homes. wind gusts approached 90 miles an hour. >> in the middle east there is growing opposition to egypt's new leader. crowds have protested calling for the president to rescind

their first day back talking about their fears and experiences before the cease fire. the body of a former palestine leader will be exhumid on tuesday. they will study the remains as part of an ongoing investigation into his death. he died in november of 2004 after suddenly falling ill. supporters have long said that israel successfully carried out a scheme to poison him. israel has denied the allegations. he will be exhumed and buried again with military honors. >> iran accusing the united states of trying to stir up trouble. in letters to the un they claim american ships carrying out illegal acts in the gulf. they also claim that the outs has ignored radio warnings and flown into iran air space. so far the white house has commented. >> a penny more for a mile.

. breaking news in a week long homicide investigation in the south bay. new information about a second suspect arrested in a deadly carjacking and police shoot out. good morning. well cub back. >> minutes ago officers confirmed a second person is in custody. matt keller is live with what we know about the arrest. >> reporter: the manhunt is over. i just got word at the san jose police department. that officers art arrested a second suspect in concord and he is a juvenile. the first suspect. a 26-year-old was in court wednesday, police say he and the juvenile just arrested robbed four businesses, shot and killed a 22-year-old in a car jack agriculture carjacking attempt and participated in a shoot out. one of the officers was hit and taken to the hospital. the suspect was arrested the next morning after standoff in an east san jose neighborhood.

candidates. the window of an east oakland fire station was damaged in what investigators believe was a running gun battle yesterday afternoon. police say more than 20 shots were fired in several locations near 73rd avenue and foot hill. a window at fire station 23 was hit by the gunfire. no firefighters were hurt. police say they couldn't find anyone in the area that had been hit by gunfire and no arrests have been made. in alameda county, the cost of water could go up next year and you new proposal. the alameda county water district wants to increase its bimonthly service charge by 17%, adding $7.47 to a monthly bill for residential customers. the hike would help fund projects to retrofit critical water mains and replace aging pipelines. well, the san jose sharks were scheduled to play against the anaheim ducks at hp pavillion tonight, but the game and all previous games were canceled because of the nhl lockout. now the league canceled all games through december 14th, as well as the all-star game in

larry hagman this morning, best known for his role as jr ewing in the long-running tv show "dallas." he also starred in the hit tv classic "i dream of jeannie." he died in a dallas hospital yesterday from a recent battle from complications from cancer. he was 81 years old. alameda sheriff's office is mourning the loss of one of their honey this morning. one of their deputies was killed and shoot critically injured in a shootout yesterday in baldwin county. they were responding to a family dispute when a man in the home started shooting at them. 47-year-old deputy scott ward died on the scene. the suspect was also shot and killed. one of the fbi's 10 most wanted fugitives is now in custody. 37-year-old joe luis simms was arrested in mexico on thursday and faces charges of murder, kidnapping and rape. the refuted gang member is accused of killing two rival gang members in 1998. police say he thought his girlfriend was going to tell police, so he kidnapped, raped

and killed her. investigators believe he killed another man back in 2008. national representatives at the up and coming u.n. climate talks could take on activist roles in the wake of a year with extreme weather. talks resume monday, with a two-week conference in qatar. many scientists say the weather the u.s. experienced, the monster storm and scorching heat waves will occur more often on a warming planet. new yorkers can look forward to one sign of normalcy after superstorm sandy. odd/even gas rationing will end on sunday, after so many gas stations had no power or gas. city officials say 85% of the gas stations are operational again. officials in new jersey and long island had already ended the odd/even system. the estimated cost of the damage and losses to new jersey caused by sandy is $29.4 billion. governor chris christie released that figure yesterday, saying it was a preliminary number.

the state has not said how much financial relief it will receive from the federal government. hurricane sandy victims can't seem to escape the devastation and now growing health concerns can be added to the mess left behind. exposure to toxins, mold and dust, and in some places sewage, all adding to the list of worries for homeowners. federal disaster medical assistance teams have set up temporary locations to treat victims from the storm. there have been complaints of cough, bronchitis and asthma all reported in the last couple of weeks. >> we've been treating 70 to 80 patients a day. a day. since we've started this base, we treated over a thousand patients. >> authorities stress it's still unclear how many of those cases are linked to people with chronic conditions that are just getting worse. access to regular medication has also been hard and the steadily declining weather temperatures are also causing health concerns. well, new jobs are coming to the city of tracy and it's courtesy of amazon. the online retailer finalized a plan with the city to build a new distribution center set to

it is saturday, november 24th. i'm claudine wong. >> i'm mike mibach. police arrest add second person in connection to last week's deadly crime spree in the south bay. police say the second suspect is a juvenile and he was captured last night in concord. he and the other suspect, jonathan wilbanks are accused of pulling off several armed robberies, also suspected of killing a man during a car jacking and firing shots at san jose police officers. this development may be of comfort for the family of the car jacking victim, rory park pedford. coming up, a live report on the latest arrest and the memorial for the victim. that is scheduled in campbell for later this morning. police in san jose are asking for the public's help, as they search for the driver involved in a fatal hit and run accident. it happened wednesday morning around 6:15 near allen rock and jackson avenues. police say the driver of a dark-colored sedan struck a homeless man, then sped away. the man was left lying in the road and was then hit by another car. police say the driver of that

second car immediately stopped and is cooperating with police. in overnight news, video you aren't going to see anywhere else of a car deliberately torched in oakland. [ horn honking ] >> you can hear the horn which wouldn't stop blaring as the flames and the smoke engulfed what was a toyota camry. it all happened just after 11:00 last night in the area of 50th avenue and international boulevard. the owner believes someone threw something into the car to start that fire and fire investigators say the burn pattern suggests this was a case of arson. there are no suspects at this time. in san jose, investigators pinpointed the source of a thanksgiving night fire at a complex of town houses. the fire started in a fireplace as the tenants were trying to keep warm. however, investigators still don't know what caused the flames to spread so fast. that fire displaced 18 people and injured one firefighter who was hurt when part of the ceiling fell on top of him. he does have a concussion and neck injury. firefighters say that fire is a

reminder to all of us to pay extra attention to lights, candles, stoves and fireplaces during the holiday season. a distress call from a sinking boat sent rescuers speeding to the waters off the berkeley shore. the call came in just after noon yesterday. that boat was taking in water about 300 yards north of the berkeley pier. someone on that boat used a cell phone to call 911. the cause of the leak appeared to be a broken seal on the drive shaft. >> there were eight people on board. they all had personal flotation devices on, so they would have been safe enough in the cold water. it's also pretty calm conditions out here on the bay today, too. >> five people left the boat with rescue crews. three remained on board while the boat was towed to emeryville. in addition to the people, a dog, a cat, and a snake were also found on the boat. despite walkouts and protests by wal-mart employees, the retail giant claims it had its best black friday ever, reporting a record 10 million transactions from the time doors

opened for black friday. ♪ >> protesters lined up outside this wal-mart in san leandro, making it one of hundreds of protests at wal-mart stores nationwide. the lively group encouraged customers to support employees, who are asking for better wages and working conditions. >> i want wal-mart to stop retaliating to employees who speak out and treat us with dignity and respect. >> only a handful of protesters were wal-mart employees. politicians, community groups and unions beefed up the crowd and supported the first nationwide protest against wal-mart. well, tensions grew at one arizona wal-mart, as hundreds of shoppers pushed and shoved their way to the most coveted deals. take a look at this scene. this was friday morning at a store in tucson. as you can see, people were pretty much doing anything they could to get their hands on some of the best electronics deals. retail analysts say black friday revenue adds up to close to 40%

of many stores' annual sales. the black friday shopping rush turned violent at a wal-mart in florida. police say two people were shot during an argument over a parking spot in tallahassee. witnesses say two couples were arguing when a shopping cart hit a car. that's when a man pulled out a gun and started shooting. the victim sustained nonlife threatening injuries. police are looking for the gunman. another black friday shooting this, one in colorado. police are searching for a man who opened fire inside a target store in aurora last night. police say a man wearing a black ski mask went to the target pharmacy and pulled out a gun, firing one rant into the ceiling, then running away. witnesses say he is 6 feet tall, white male, weighing about 180 pounds with spiked hair and geat tee. no one was injured. a stockton woman had to be hospitalized on thanksgiving after someone threw a pumpkin at her while she was walking across the street. a white sedan came speeding down

the street and someone inside of that car hurled a pumpkin that hit the 51-year-old woman who was just standing on the sidewalk. the fairly large pumpkin did hit her in the chest and she had to be taken to the hospital. >> you got to factor in how fast the car was driving and also the person throwing the pumpkin out of the vehicle. it did strike her right in the middle of the chest. >> detectives say the crime is a felony, considered assault with a deadly weapon. it's all still under investigation. this morning, investigators are returning to the site in western massachusetts where a natural gas explosion wiped out a downtown strip club. a camera on top of a nearby building captured the blast right there. witnesses described it as a mushroom cloud of an explosion, big and orange. 18 people were hurt, including nine firefighters, two police officers, and four gas workers. unfortunately, none of the injuries were considered life-threatening. >> it felt like it was an impact and it felt like the building

was -- the roof was going to cave in on us and we shook. we just looked at each other, like this cannot be happening. >> i was right here, just smoking a cigarette. and they went, like, boom! >> utility workers say they tried to clear the area when people smelled a heavy gas odor. a dancer at the strip club was on stage when she was told to evacuate. everyone did make it out of the building before it was destroyed. federal investigators are looking into the cause of a plane crash that killed a pilot in the sierra foothills. the small plane went down at mory rasmussen field area. the pilot was the only person on board and his name hasn't been released. arson has been ruled out in a power plant fire in orrville. the fire was put out yesterday at the plant earlier than expected. the damage is also less than firefighters originally thought. that power plant supplies electricity to pumps used by

us at san jose police headquarters with the developing news. >> reporter: sources at the san jose police department told me this morning that a second suspect has been arrested. they told me he is a juvenile and was caught in concord. now, the first suspect, 26-year-old jonathan wilbanks, was in court wednesday. police say he and the juvenile just arrested, robbed four businesses, shot and killed 22-year-old rory park pedford at a car jacking attempt at a seven eleven and participated in a shootout on november 16th. one of the officers in the shootout was hit and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. wilbanks was arrested the next morning after standoff in an east san jose neighborhood. police released a sketch of the second suspect on monday and offered a $20,000 reward. again, sources told me this morning he was arrested in concord and is a juvenile. memorial service for the homicide victim, rory park pedford is being held this morning in campbell. the viewing is going to be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11:00. reporting live in san jose, matt

keller, ktvu channel 2news. the chp is trying to figure out what caused a deadly crash in sonoma county. it happened around 4:30 yesterday afternoon on todd road, south of santa rosa. the 33-year-old driver, emil smith, drifted off the road and slammed into a tree. a passenger in his car died later at the hospital. smith was also injured in the collision. alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. a chp says its maximum enforcement campaign this holiday season appears to be working. the highway patrol reports improving numbers midway through the weekend. the latest numbers are from wednesday night to yesterday morning. 71 bay area residents were arrested. . in lake county, police in clear lake are asking for the public's help to find two teenage girls. 15-year-olds lacy el wood and sarah beck last seen at a taco bell on saturday. el wood is described as 5' 6,
